About this program
The international Master's program World Studies: Orders, Politics, Cultures provides in-depth knowledge of global structures and interactions, aiming for an interdisciplinary examination of political and cultural processes on a global scale. It addresses international orders, the complex interplay of international actors, the dissemination of ideas and knowledge with global relevance, and the divergent and converging cultural interpretations of globally influential processes. 'Orders' in the context of World Studies refers to a stable relationship between parts and a whole (e.g., in terms of multi-level governance and international legal orders), 'Politics' concerns the shaping of social life in transnational contexts, and 'Cultures' refers to (contested) interpretations, practices, and values of these orders and formations. The program explores the diversity of global processes and structures from social, cultural, and humanities perspectives, based on a cooperation between Law, Sociology, Political Science, History, and Literature and Cultural Studies. It enables the systematic integration of multiple disciplinary perspectives that complement and occasionally challenge each other. The Master's program aims to inspire and guide students to understand and analyze global structures and processes in their interconnections in an interdisciplinary manner. In addition to subject-specific knowledge, the program equips students with the competence to independently identify and address problems, and to present their findings clearly in oral and written form. Graduates of the program possess a special scientific professionalism that qualifies them for careers in academia and other professional fields.
