About this program
The Master's program in Preventive Fire Protection aims to close the gap in fire protection training between the study of architecture, civil engineering, and other engineering disciplines, and the high professional and personal requirements for knowledgeable fire protection engineers in accordance with legal and professional standards. It is primarily aimed at engineers from the broad spectrum of those involved in construction and aims to impart necessary in-depth knowledge in fire protection. Furthermore, it aims to lead students to subject-specific competence and entrepreneurial ability through scientific deepening and supplementation of their professional practical experience. The required professional, methodological, and personal competencies are developed by the students under scientific guidance and supervision based on planning exercises, sample projects, training and demonstrations in laboratories and research facilities, as well as in communication workshops. The program uniquely combines presence and self-study phases, discussion-open seminars and exercises, excursions, and extracurricular activities to promote intensive professional and personal contact with lecturers and among peers. To consolidate or expand one's position as a leader, the development of one's own personality is also necessary. The development of one's own personality is stimulated in the Master's program in Preventive Fire Protection through specialized knowledge, particularly in the area of expert assessment (e.g., types, assignments, roles, actions / aspects of liability and insurance) and fire protection concepts (types, content, differentiation, phases, participants). So-called "people skills" in leading employees are based not only on professional competence but also on communicative competence (conflict management), personal competence (ability for self-reflection), or methodological competence (e.g., solution orientation). All these mentioned competencies are also imparted with regard to personal development, especially in the sense of a leadership personality. The part-time postgraduate program has been conducted by EIPOS in Dresden since 2003: until 2012 in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz, and since 2013 in cooperation with Dresden International University (DIU), the continuing education university of TU Dresden. More than 280 graduates of this program apply the acquired knowledge in self-employment or in employed professional activities in industry, business, or administration. Some are now working as state-recognized experts or inspection engineers for fire protection.
