About this program
Transformationsdesign understands design not just as a form-giving discipline, but as an active co-shaping of social conditions. It exemplifies a broader development in design where Gestaltung is increasingly renegotiated in interdependence with social, political, and ecological conflicts. Design is seen as part of societal negotiations – situated, social, conflictual, partisan, and power-critical. The program focuses on designing conditions, relationships, and spaces of possibility in diverse media formats and distribution contexts, aiming to co-shape democratic negotiation processes, collective action, and futures under real, conflict-laden conditions. It also calls for a critical examination of the structural frameworks and the economic, political, and cultural forces that limit or open up design possibilities.
