About this program

In synthetic biology, an engineering approach is used to equip biological cells with new molecular functions. The English-language degree program Synthetic Biology includes current findings from molecular biology as well as engineering and materials sciences. It is the first degree program that directly deals with the interdisciplinary field of synthetic biology and optimally prepares for this exciting new research and professional field. A focus of the degree program is on practical laboratory work. Modern molecular biology methods are learned and applied. In addition, an understanding of the mathematical modeling of biological systems is conveyed, and engineering principles are used to solve biological problems. However, this degree program goes beyond imparting scientific knowledge. The ability to think creatively and innovatively is to be developed. Through the strong connection to current research, the knowledge learned can be directly transferred into practice and into one's own research projects. This project work is supported and supplemented by training in intercultural and scientific communication.
