About this program
The study program aims to train authors and establish the art film, combined with profound knowledge in analytical theory and film history. Key elements of film language, such as mise-en-scène, directing (movement before and of the camera), and montage, are foundational. The program also emphasizes work with actors, drawing on theories from Stanislavski, Strasberg, and others. The curriculum includes practical introductory seminars and exercises, as well as theoretical seminars. A significant component in the basic studies is a 3-semester foundational seminar (Filmübung1) covering all stages of an individual film process from idea to completion. In the main studies, a 2-semester major film exercise (Filmübung2) focuses on directing/camera with various thematic emphases (on-location, studio construction, acting). Additional practical exercises include creating social spots, working with actors on scripts (Freies Spiel), and an introduction to live directing with multiple cameras.
