About this program

The Master's program in Social Work qualifies you for specialist and leadership roles in a complex professional field. You will learn to develop innovative concepts, implement them in a client-oriented manner, and shape organizations in the face of digitalization, globalization, and economization. The program begins with a selectable certificate course and then deepens in three semesters of academic profiling. You will work on your own research and development projects, expand your leadership skills, and strategically develop your professional profile. The MASA offers a unique specialization in intensive pedagogy nationwide – with its own professorship and strong practical relevance. Students qualify for demanding fields in child and youth welfare, e.g., for challenging behavior, residential care, or case management. The content is scientifically founded, practically oriented, and highly regarded by providers and youth welfare offices – providing excellent job market opportunities. As a part-time program, the MASA is consistently geared towards immediate benefit in everyday work. Examination achievements such as case analyses or concept developments are based on students' real challenges. Theory, research, and practice are intertwined – for personal learning and real added value in the institution. The program accompanies and strengthens professional development on the job – across semesters and individually. The MASA also enables individuals with a Bachelor's degree in, for example, Childhood Education or Special Needs Education to become state-recognized social workers. Through targeted additional modules, legal deepening, and close practical relevance, connectivity is ensured. Many employers recognize the program as a full qualification for leadership positions or specialist roles. This makes it particularly attractive for career changers. Social work is demanding – both professionally and emotionally. The MASA promotes students' resilience, self-confidence, and ability to reflect. In modules on communication, team processes, or emotional stability, participants further develop their professional self-understanding. The goal is to remain capable of action in complex situations – this makes the difference in the profession – and in everyday life.
