About this program

Specialists in the digital age: The miniaturization of electronic components and the increase in performance of digital interfaces are constantly advancing, making future-proof solutions possible: Smart Systems – intelligent and autonomous systems that can act flexibly and independently in their respective environments. To develop solutions in the interface between electrical engineering and computer science, industry requires specialists who are knowledgeable in various disciplines: Information technology, electrical engineering, computer science, as well as communications, control, and automation engineering. This degree program aims to qualify you successfully in these areas. Anyone who wants to develop intelligent solutions for the future in the course of digitalization is in the right place. Application areas include the development of industrial solutions (keyword: Industry 4.0), where modern information and communication technology are integrated. But also intelligent and digitally networked systems for everyday life. Because all modern devices, components, and machines contain electronic elements paired with applications from computer science. For example, in an intelligent refrigerator: A sensor from the field of electrical engineering sends a signal (yogurt has expired) to an electronic chip, which processes the information and sends it, for example, to the owner's smartphone. This alerts them in time to buy new yogurt. Another example would be the development of an autonomous vacuuming, cleaning, or lawn mowing robot: A map of the area to be processed must be stored in the autonomous system, which must be adaptively updated. The device must be developed in such a way that it autonomously navigates to sufficiently process the intended areas, autonomously avoids obstacles, and finally returns autonomously to the docking station after completing its work. In the industrial complex, there are diverse applications with associated development tasks: from autonomous transport vehicles to automation solutions to independently operating communication solutions for distributed systems (e.g., communication between vehicles in road traffic for better driving situation assessment).
