About this program
The program prepares students for the challenges of working with invaluable works of art through a comprehensive, scientifically founded, and practice-oriented curriculum. It combines scientific analysis, practical conservation-restoration work, and scientific problem-solving. The program is structured around two main pillars: scientific education in conservation science and art technology, including natural and art historical foundations, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, and practical training in the examination, conservation, and restoration of original artworks, supplemented by external internships, summer schools, and on-site projects. The program has been established since 1974 and is nationally and internationally recognized, with strong connections to heritage conservation institutions, museums, and other study locations for internships and exchanges. Collaboration exists with Technische Universität Dresden, Bergakademie Freiberg, and Universität Oldenburg. Since 2000, there has been an opportunity for doctoral studies in art technology and conservation sciences, with the possibility of participating in research projects.
