About this program
If you are interested in writing your own philosophical contributions, the Bielefeld Master's program in Philosophy is the right place for you, as this is the focus of this course of study. Here you will learn in particular how to develop your own contributions and discuss them with others. To do this, you will engage in depth with complex philosophical topics in small groups. You will deepen your philosophical knowledge in various areas of philosophy and can set your own thematic priorities. Graduate and workshop seminars are competently led teaching events that form a forum for intensive discussion among participants. The discussion is based on thorough text study, for which you will be given sufficient time in the course of study. In addition to written skills, presentation skills are trained in the presentation workshop. In the satellite seminar, you can work on your own topic ideas in small groups in guided self-study and pursue your own projects in the project module. The department's colloquia also allow you to discuss philosophical work with researchers at later career stages. And with the perspective module, you have a place in your studies that supports you in choosing the right options from the many available. This not only prepares you well for the academic practice of philosophy, but you also acquire the qualifications for which philosophy graduates are successful in other professional fields: analytical-argumentative skills, skill in independent topic development, and the ability to write appropriate and convincing texts. These skills are sought after in a variety of professional fields, such as publishing, public relations, foundations, etc.
