About this program
The dual nursing program allows you to study practice-oriented at the university and in a practical training facility, and you will receive a monthly salary during your studies. You will be prepared for professional and high-quality care of people of all age groups with nursing needs. After completing your studies, you will be able to provide care safely, efficiently, and independently, critically reflect on your actions, and scientifically justify them. The generalist nursing program leads to a Bachelor's degree and the permission to use the professional title "Registered Nurse with Academic Degree" (Bachelor of Science). This opens the door for you to a varied professional activity with numerous opportunities and secure jobs worldwide. Practical phases alternate with theory phases throughout the entire course of study. The practical study is supported in the facilities by both practical supervisors and university support. Teaching at the university includes a high proportion of practical training, which takes place in state-of-the-art skills labs. In four years, you will obtain the professional license with a state examination and the academic Bachelor's degree. The modules in the first semester impart the fundamentals of health and nursing sciences to build up nursing professional competencies and expertise in the first step. Specifically, topics such as health promotion, the nursing process, evidence-based nursing, human anatomy, and support for activities of daily living are taught seminaristically and in practical teaching units. Modules in the second semester build on the established foundations; further nursing phenomena are discussed and related nursing skills are taught, in-depth nursing science theories are developed, and further physiological and pathophysiological expertise is acquired. In semesters 3-6, specific nursing contexts that reflect the diverse and generalist nature of specific nursing contexts are developed. The content of the study program enables the care of people of all age groups. Modules in these semesters provide insights into specific nursing contexts (Perioperative Nursing, Nursing in Obstetrics and Pediatrics, Psychiatric and Neurological Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Nursing of Persons with Oncological Diseases); however, the fundamental generalist approach is considered in all modules and systematically extends across the entire course of study according to age groups (child/adult/elderly and very elderly person). In semesters 6, 7, and 8, in addition to the Bachelor's thesis, the written, oral, and practical components of the state examination are carried out, including the assumption of healing activities in the areas of chronic wound care, diabetes management, and care of people with dementia.
