About this program
The future-oriented and interdisciplinary Master's program in Emergency and Crisis Management at the MSH Faculty of Health Sciences aims to optimize cross-sectoral processes in emergency care – from the receipt of an emergency call in the control center, through the pre-hospital care of emergency patients, the initial clinical care in the emergency room, and in-hospital further treatment of emergencies, to discharge. At the same time, solutions are to be developed for the continuously important demand for the establishment of comprehensive quality and risk management systems in the particularly risk-prone areas mentioned above. Our part-time, career-integrated study model gives students the opportunity to balance their professional activities and/or family life with their studies. Building on a first academic degree in Rescue Management, Management in Hazard Prevention, Advanced Nursing Practice, or a related field, you will acquire management competencies for leadership and management tasks in the health system – especially in emergency care – as well as subject-specific and social competencies in the Master's program in Emergency and Crisis Management. In terms of content, the degree program is divided into four competence fields with a total of 16 modules. Within the scope of the General Subject Competencies in Management competence field, you will learn and deepen your knowledge in cross-sectoral emergency management, as well as in medical, rescue service, and hospital law, and additionally in medical ethics. In the area of Interprofessional Competencies, you will deal in more depth with psychosocial emergency and crisis management and acquire knowledge in strategy and corporate development. These are supplemented by Specific Subject Competencies, for example in the areas of innovation or digitalization. Furthermore, you will acquire scientific methodological competencies during your studies and be able to understand and apply the scientific terminology of the subject area, assess the scientific quality of contributions, and know the different teaching opinions in the field. Your personal development will be supported throughout the entire course of study, for example through the independent execution of projects and reflections on successes and failures associated with study and practical activities. The degree program concludes with the Master's thesis.
