About this program

The Musicology program is a joint institution of the University of Paderborn and the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, serving as an interface between science and artistic practice. The core of teaching and research involves the study of historical and contemporary European and global music cultures. The program is supported by a lively dialogue with musical practice, music theory, music pedagogy, and media production, as well as intensive exchange with other disciplines, particularly in the humanities, cultural studies, and computer science. Students gain early insight into musicological professional fields through study projects and participation in research projects. A unique aspect of the program in Detmold is the Bachelor of Musicology with an additional musical-artistic qualification. The program offers ideal conditions for a practice-oriented, scientifically sound, and individually supervised study.
