About this program

The Master's program in Molecular Biology and Evolution aims to provide an interdisciplinary, scientific education in biological phenomena. Students will gain a deep understanding of molecular and functional processes by tracing their evolutionary origins and learning the underlying molecular and genetic-genomic mechanisms. The program also focuses on scientific communication skills, including scientific management courses, and applies theoretical knowledge in practical research, both in the lab and in the field. Kiel University, with its research focus on life sciences and its Center for Evolutionary Biology, offers an excellent environment for this study, bringing together scientists from various disciplines. Students benefit from inter-institutional research groups with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology, and the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Center for Medicine and Biosciences, providing access to international research projects. The university is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities, including a platform for molecular in vivo imaging and Europe's largest scientific Next-Generation Sequencing platform.
