About this program
Mechatronics is about the intelligence under the hood: How do we make modern machines "smart"? How can their efficiency be improved and their CO2 emissions reduced? What can we learn from nature? And how do humans and machines work together best? You will deal with these and other exciting questions related to the development, production, and marketing of complex technical products in the study of Mechatronics, a highly interdisciplinary engineering science between electrical engineering, computer science, and mechanical engineering. It forms the backbone of many technical systems – from smartphones to electric cars to biomedical devices. Mechatronics is modern mechanical engineering. In your studies, you will learn to construct precisely these technical systems, design electronic circuits, develop software for microcomputers, and control, make safer, and improve mechatronic systems. Special fields of application and focus areas in Ilmenau are microsystems technology and biomechatronics, which combine mechatronics with biology and medicine. This way, you will develop methodological knowledge and interdisciplinary competencies that will enable you, as a mechatronics engineer, to ensure that, for example, the engine and transmission are perfectly matched and environmental pollution is minimized, or to contribute to progress in medicine or resource-saving production with robotics and sensor technology. Whether as a team leader in international development teams or in advanced research, in the automotive industry, aerospace technology, IT and electronics industry, or biomedical technology: as a mechatronics engineer, you are guaranteed to be a sought-after engineer who anticipates trends and shapes the future.
