About this program

The international Master's program Material Engineering and Conservation Science (MECS) offers excellent career prospects in materials science. The program focuses on how to sustainably design the life cycle of materials and develop technical solutions for preserving industrial heritage objects. Students will learn to analyze the structure and properties of metals and polymers, and how to use new manufacturing technologies like additive manufacturing. The program is interdisciplinary, covering the entire product lifecycle from manufacturing to recycling. Students can specialize in Materials Processing and Performance or Industrial Heritage Conservation. The program also includes cross-sectional qualifications to prepare students for leadership and organizational roles. Collaboration with the German Mining Museum Bochum and Stiftung Zollverein provides opportunities for practical application and research on industrial heritage objects.
