About this program
The part-time Master's program in Social Work: Clinical Social Work is particularly suitable for professionals who work in psychosocial counseling, support, and treatment and want to specialize against the backdrop of increasing isolation and marginalization of marginalized, hard-to-reach people. The Master's program is offered in cooperation with Coburg University of Applied Sciences. Students study in five semesters of learning support in block seminars (half at ASH Berlin and half at HS Coburg) and in a fixed study group of about 25 students. One block event in the 2nd semester and one block event in the 3rd semester take place online to better reconcile study and work as well as family conditions. E-learning and blended learning support and supplement the presence phases at both universities. The flexible learning support for the Master's thesis takes place in the sixth semester. Graduates of the postgraduate program will be awarded the title "Master of Arts" in the field of Clinical Social Work. The Master's program enables students to contribute specialized clinical knowledge and specialized social work treatment skills to the health and social sector. Students are enabled to provide independent and self-responsible psychosocial counseling and treatment. The goal is psychosocial stress, crisis, and illness management through social integration. The program includes five semesters of full-time study and one semester of professionally supervised preparation of the Master's thesis. In the modularized study, "credits" describe the time commitment, i.e., presence teaching including preparation and follow-up, self-study, and examinations. One "credit" corresponds to 30 hours. This results in approximately 2700 hours of work for the entire Master's program. Spread over three years of study, this is about 15 hours of work per week. A total of five block events take place per semester, including four 3-day workshops and one 5-day workshop. E-learning and blended learning support and supplement the presence events at both universities. As a specialized social work field, Clinical Social Work specializes in psychosocial diagnostics, counseling, and social therapy, as well as crisis intervention for hard-to-reach clients. The program imparts theoretically founded and practice-oriented knowledge about people who are in psychosocial problem situations due to chronic illnesses, disabilities, disadvantages, or impairments. Graduates of the program bring the following special competencies into their professional lives: Scientist Practitioner Competence: By developing your clinical expertise, you will have the opportunity to respond appropriately and professionally to complex bio-psycho-social health problems and tasks based on scientific theories and findings. This also includes recognizing new developments and challenges against the backdrop of intra- and interdisciplinary discourse and being able to react innovatively. Our graduates receive a broad spectrum of quantitative and qualitative clinical research methods for the evaluation and quality assurance of Clinical Social Work, as well as for application in scientific research. Interprofessional Communication Competence: You can communicate complex health-related bio-psycho-social, multi-sectoral problem issues within the framework of multidisciplinary cooperation. This includes the systematic reflection of one's own p.
