About this program
The two-year Master's program in Directing, with specializations in Music Theater or Acting, allows for the deepening of artistic research through individual profile analysis and learning agreements. During the course of study, two projects are planned: a workshop production with an experimental character and a larger final project. For the final production after the second year, various options are open: In music theater, either a premiere in cooperation with the Composition and Dramaturgy programs can be developed, or a work from the repertoire can be reinterpreted. The spectrum for directing acting ranges from devised theater, the development of one's own theater evening, to the reinterpretation of a literary template. Professionalization in dealing with the professional theater field includes regular round-tables with representatives from various positions in theaters. In addition to the Kulturfabrik Kampnagel venue and the HfMT forum, cooperation with various theaters is sought, which are willing to produce Master's productions and include them in their program. The Theater Academy works closely with the various degree programs of the university itself and constantly expands its cooperation with other universities in and outside Hamburg. This applies to stage design, costumes, composition, musicians and orchestras, actors and singers, and others. Exchange with European theater training programs is an integral part of the studies.
