About this program
The Master's program Geotechnics/Tunneling is aimed at engineers who want to face the challenges of working in planning offices, construction companies, public employers, or research and development. The program offers students diverse development opportunities in all areas where the subsoil must be considered in planning, calculation, construction operations, or legal aspects. The application-oriented study can be completed either full-time over three semesters or part-time, while working, over five semesters. The discipline of Geotechnics requires individual and goal-oriented solutions within a broad spectrum of tasks, ranging from site investigation to planning, execution, and operation of structures or infrastructure measures. The study imparts methodological and subject-specific competencies necessary for developing these solutions. This includes, for example, fundamental principles of geomechanics and the ability to use computer-based methods for analyzing geotechnical problems safely and effectively. Topics of earthworks, foundation engineering, and tunneling are covered in a project-based manner within the scope of concrete design tasks. In tunneling, construction methods, machine use, and measurement and monitoring methods are the focus. To prepare for leadership roles in future professional life, the program also covers legal, management, and business administration aspects.
