About this program
Nowadays, the fact that technical products, systems and machines fulfill their assigned functionality with high performance is by far no longer the only customer wish that is taken into account during development and production. Users increasingly expect sustainable solutions that can be manufactured, operated and disposed of in an energy-saving manner, coupled with individuality and intelligent communication options. Creating such products and machines is the task of modern mechanical engineering and the content of this bachelor's degree program. It was designed with all current requirements in mind and offers three specialization areas that can be deepened during the course of study. Natural science and engineering fundamentals such as mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics and materials science continue to play an essential role. Future-oriented and interdisciplinary project work is the focus of the further course of study, in addition to the basic teaching of methods and concepts and the mastery of modern development tools. Due to the almost unlimited field of activity, women as well as men, theoreticians as well as practitioners feel comfortable in this profession today. Whether at an automotive supplier, a brewery, a food manufacturer or a medical equipment manufacturer, the career field of a mechanical engineer is as versatile and exciting as life itself! The aim of the program is to train mechanical engineers who can recognize future societal challenges and independently develop sustainable technical solutions in industrial and commercial environments based on interdisciplinary knowledge. To this end, a broad and integrated knowledge is imparted in a 7-semester course of study, whereby students can choose between 3 specializations: "General mechanical engineering" (AMB) "Safety Engineering" (SIW) "Computational Engineering" (CE) Identical basic subjects form the basis for all specializations, in which you learn how to use current digital tools for product development in addition to basic engineering knowledge. You will gain an overview of the essential aspects of product design, product development and manufacturing as well as the organization of business processes and (project) management, which will enable you to develop solutions to problems in a professional environment. Through the range of elective subjects, you have the opportunity to individually expand this basic knowledge in depth and breadth. Each specialization, which accounts for approx. 38% of the total scope of the program (possible elective subjects and project work added to the specializations), aims to impart theoretical knowledge and industry-oriented practice in the respective specializations. This also includes practice-oriented subject combinations with projects in the laboratories or in cooperation with industry as well as excursions. The bachelor's degree program meets the international requirements for two-tier study models and thus represents a first professional qualification ( Bachelor of Engineering ). It is an internationally recognized academic degree according to European guidelines. Following the bachelor's degree, you can directly enter the profession as an engineer. You also have the opportunity to expand your knowledge within the framework of a 3-semester master's degree program and thus acquire the highest university degree attainable in Germany. The master's degree thus qualifies you to pursue demanding activities in business and research, allows access to higher service and, depending on your inclination, leads you to doctoral studies. The specialization "General Mechanical Engineering" (AMB) focuses on the competencies in the areas of design theory, the finite element method, digital manufacturing and machine tools that are important for the modern design engineer. Safety engineering (SIW) , on the other hand, provides extensive knowledge in the areas of occupational safety, fire and explosion protection, as well as technical saf
