About this program

The program prepares students for the first state examination for teaching art at grammar schools. It includes artistic practice, art-related sciences (art history, art theory, art mediation, general cultural studies, design-related sciences, art and economy), and study workshops. The curriculum is modularized. The study of art education at grammar schools is a double subject in Bavaria, meaning a second teaching subject is not required. The program also includes pedagogical studies (pedagogy and psychology) and practical teaching experience (block internship and a semester-long subject-specific didactic internship). The educational science examination is part of the First State Examination and can only be completed at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. A shortened program is available for individuals with a completed fine arts degree, preparing them for the first state examination in five semesters.
