About this program
Our students engage openly, curiously, and confidently with traditional and innovative techniques. Corresponding to the implementation ideas, we use analog and digital tools. Research and experiment are at the forefront. Always with a view to responsible and environmentally conscious action. An interest in socially relevant topics and their staging, as well as the willingness to engage with the latest media technology, is a prerequisite for studying and for successful work. Collaborative projects in interdisciplinary teaching prepare students for the working world. We offer a thematic range of design projects from society, science, business, and culture every semester. Excursions to agencies, companies, and production sites expand the content of practice-oriented teaching. We work together in small classes with intensive supervision and active teaching. The working world of communication designers is changing faster today than before: classic fields of work are disappearing, new fields of work are emerging. Consequently, new demands are placed on design education. With the further development and reorientation of communication design teaching at the Münchberg campus, we are also currently dealing with preparing students for diverse problems and lifelong learning. Excursions to agencies, companies, and production sites expand the content of practice-oriented teaching. Students learn how different design disciplines – graphic design, information design, user experience, editorial, animation, and interaction – are applied in professional life. In recent years, we have visited, for example, art+com, betahaus Berlin, Infographics Group, Fablab Berlin, FontShop, think moto, and Gestalten Verlag. Here, initial contacts for the practical semester are made.
