About this program

The artistic Master's program "Körper, Theorie und Poetik des Performativen" (KTPP) is dedicated to the field of performance within the tradition of visual arts. It enables students to deepen their artistic position in the performative field. The program is aimed at artists who want to further develop their practice and theoretical skills, as well as curators, scenographers, scientists, or other individuals with artistic practice. The focus is on the body as a site of action, expression, and resistance. The training is based on each student's artistic exploration, linked with theory. The M.F.A. includes various artistic formats, performances, books, graphic works, seminars, exhibitions, or presentations. Performance is understood as a broad, inclusive concept, exploring what it is and what it can be. The work with material, body, language, and theoretical reflection are understood as distinct yet inseparably connected practices that converge in artistic work on and with the performative. Central questions revolve around the body as a site of resistance and action, the formulation of singular practices as a path to the general and politics, and theory as a space for practically changing societal conditions. The program allows students to develop their practice technically, theoretically, and organizationally, with an emphasis on artistic exploration rather than a finished product. Individual practice is in constant tension with collective work, where collective processes enable individual work. Heterogeneous practices, diverse backgrounds, and different artistic positions coexist. Collective forms of critique and individual discussions form the core of the teaching, culminating in a final examination discussion. Supplementary courses and seminars in audio, video, movement, writing, lighting, and stage design are offered to refine artistic tools and present work professionally. Students have exclusive access to the Heusteigtheater experimental stage in the winter semester and extensive facilities (movement room, audio and video lab) in Mozartstraße year-round.
