About this program
The molecular biomedicine has significantly contributed to the expansion of medical knowledge in the field of diagnosis and therapy in recent times and forms the basis for better understanding the causes of diseases and thus optimizing therapy through interdisciplinary contributions. With an interdisciplinary offering, from cooperations of the faculties of Biology, Physics, and the Faculty of Technology, the degree program aims to meet the modern demands for interdisciplinary training in biomedicine in a special way and is thus particularly oriented towards modern biomedical research. At the same time, the interdisciplinary orientation offers students a research-strong environment, insights into current methods and questions in biomedicine, as well as the opportunity for a thesis in cooperation with local clinics and medical institutes. Developments from scientific research, such as new and readily available methods for sequencing the genome, are increasingly finding their way into routine diagnostics in clinics. Personalized medicine, which is oriented towards the exact needs of the individual patient, is the goal of this development. The Interdisciplinary Biomedicine degree program is positioned precisely in this highly innovative field and thus also provides an attractive basis for a doctorate in biomedical research. The degree program is divided into the following profile areas: 1. The Experimental Science profile places a special emphasis on molecular and cell biological analyses of disease-relevant fundamentals. 2. The Bioinformatics profile specifically prepares students for the evaluation of large and complex datasets in biomedical research.
