About this program
The Master's program Intercultural Communication and European Studies (ICEUS) qualifies students for European, international, and intercultural professional fields. The program includes offerings in European Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Communication Studies, and Law. Topics include culture-reflective communication, Europe in the world, European politics and law, globalization, transnational governance (Model United Nations conferences), culture and media, etc. The program combines scientific foundations with an application orientation through internships, interdisciplinary projects, and simulations. Each year, around 30 international and German students come together in this program, often with 10-15 different nationalities in a study group, allowing for practical experience in intercultural communication and cooperation. Bilingual teaching, international study groups, and diverse opportunities for study abroad offer international qualifications. The program connects scientific foundations with an application orientation through internships, interdisciplinary projects, and simulations. The Master's program extends over four semesters. All students attend courses in Intercultural Communication, European Studies, European Law, and Globalization and International Organizations. Part of the studies include an international internship and subject-specific excursions to Bad Liebenzell/Strasbourg and Brussels, where European institutions are visited and discussions are held with local experts. Several simulations (Model United Nations and Model European Union) are offered as electives. After the internship, further courses for specialization are attended, and the Master's thesis is written in the fourth semester. Students develop the topic of their Master's thesis from subjects they have engaged with during their studies or internship. The program offers practical relevance and research opportunities.
