About this program
This program combines creativity with a variety of exciting disciplines, linking design subjects with areas such as economics, technology, ecology, and social issues. Students can bring in their own interests and develop their talents individually. The program aims to provide valuable knowledge tailored to the demands of the job market, preparing students for their professional future. Coburg has a tradition in design education, with this program offering practical training since the winter semester of 1998/99. The curriculum emphasizes realistic conditions, high standards for study quality, and international study opportunities. It includes a solid technical education with subjects like materials science, engineering mechanics, lightweight construction, ergonomics, technical drawing, and new production technologies. Students also gain business administration knowledge, particularly through projects with companies. From the 3rd semester, students design real products in collaboration with companies, covering areas like medical devices, multimedia products, or coffee machines. The program includes a workshop internship in the first and second semesters, covering techniques like turning, milling, and drilling, as well as model making and the use of computer-aided processing machines. The 5th semester is a full practical semester spent in a design office worldwide, accompanied by a practical seminar. The program aims to give aspiring designers a realistic understanding of their future work, including consulting roles for companies.
