About this program
In the Lehramt an Gymnasien program, students study two subjects, including their didactics, and educational sciences. Additionally, there is an interdisciplinary MINT-oriented networking area (MINT = Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Technology). From the beginning, there is a strong practical orientation: the company internship, the basic internship, and the practical semester. The program concludes with the First State Examination. The Lehramt Erweiterungsfach (additional subject) offers the possibility to study a further subject. This program can be completed either parallel to the studies or after the First State Examination. Computer science generally deals with the systematic processing of information on digital devices. Closely related to mathematics in its formal foundations, it is also an engineering discipline that has developed from the need for fast and reliable calculations of all kinds. Students in the Lehramt an Gymnasien Informatik program primarily learn the fundamentals of the subject. Fachdidaktik (subject didactics) modules continuously teach students the subject-didactic foundations of good computer science teaching over several semesters. This knowledge is immediately applied in practical training and deepened in further subject-didactic components of the study. Educational sciences include pedagogy, psychology, sociology, political science, the basic internship, and parts of the practical semester. The networking area (like the practical semester) is a joint offering of the subjects and educational sciences, available to students depending on their subject combination. The networking area combines natural sciences, technology, and humanities and social sciences. The networking area differs in its compulsory and elective areas depending on whether the subject combination in the Lehramt an Gymnasien program includes at least one MINT subject or no MINT subject. The practical training within the program consists of a basic internship in the first half and a practical semester in the second half of the respective program. The focus of the basic internship is on reflecting one's own suitability for the teaching profession in the respective teaching degree. The focus of the practical semester is particularly on reflecting pedagogical action based on the knowledge acquired and deepened during the studies. This includes a company internship of at least eight weeks in a production, processing, trade, or service company. It must be proven at the latest when registering for the First State Examination. The Hessian Teacher Academy Darmstadt is responsible for recognition. The practical training, consisting of the basic internship and the practical semester.
