About this program

The University of Bielefeld is one of the top addresses in Germany for History. The 'Bielefeld School' is also an international trademark for modern, theory-led historical research. The History department is broadly positioned thematically – in addition to all epochs, from antiquity to contemporary history, several systematic thematic fields can be studied, e.g., Ibero- and Latin American History, Economic History, Gender History, or Eastern European History. Students find an excellent environment for research-based learning with their own areas of interest. The teaching and working climate is characterized by close cooperation between work areas and a lively discussion culture. Manageable seminar sizes and dedicated teachers enable successful studies. International cooperations with universities in Europe and overseas, research colloquia, and study groups jointly organized by students and teachers create an inspiring and cooperative environment.
