About this program
The four-semester Master's program "Gender Studies - Interdisciplinary Research and Application" bundles and networks the long-standing and diverse activities in the field of gender research at Bielefeld University. This program is characterized by the combination of broadly based gender knowledge with subject-specific knowledge content. The study program is application-oriented and aims to meet the increasing labor market demand for gender knowledge and gender experts in all areas of society, as well as the demand for gender mainstreaming, diversity management, and equal opportunities in organizations. Due to its interdisciplinary and multi-perspective profile, the program qualifies for fields of activity in education and further education, politics and administration, organizations and companies, media and culture, public health, social work, and sports. The program also prepares for junior academic positions at universities and research institutions and contributes to the qualification of managers in public and political institutions, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and associations. The MA Gender Studies imparts interdisciplinary theories, methods, and findings of women's, men's, and gender research. Graduates are didactically and methodologically enabled to use the acquired knowledge and relevant practical skills for the analysis and reflection of gender and gender relations in professional work contexts. The adoption of inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives qualifies graduates to address current social and societal problems beyond subject-specific solution strategies.
