About this program

The program focuses on the examination, conservation, and restoration of easel paintings on various supports, as well as painted sculptures, covering works from the early medieval to contemporary periods. A special feature is the combination of painting and sculpture restoration, particularly valuable for works like medieval altarpieces and church furnishings. Close collaboration with other restoration programs at ABK and the archaeometry lab fosters interdisciplinary projects. Students also gain insights into other disciplines like Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture through interdisciplinary courses. The program, established in 1977, is well-connected nationally and internationally with museums, heritage conservation institutions, and private partners.
