About this program
In this research-oriented Master's program, you will acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and competencies in research and management to develop and implement innovative approaches in pedagogical practice. As an expert in early childhood education, you will work in research, training, management, or consulting. The program is offered in cooperation with the University of Potsdam, and you will receive a degree certificate from both the University of Applied Sciences and the University. The Master's program in Early Childhood Education Research at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the University of Potsdam is unique in its focus on application-oriented basic research. It is the ideal Master's program for educators with a Bachelor's degree. It differs from programs such as Early Childhood Education or Childhood Pedagogy through its clear focus on research. In your studies, you will explore the design of early childhood development and education processes. The focus is on application-oriented basic research: you will not only examine theoretical concepts but also develop solutions to scientifically advance pedagogical work with children aged 0 to 12 years. You will learn to combine scientific expertise with practical application. You will sharpen your skills in scientific work, deepen your subject knowledge, and broaden your interdisciplinary understanding of early childhood education. The program emphasizes your own research interests: you will develop a research project, usually within ongoing research projects at FHP and UP, and implement it as part of your Master's thesis. You will go through all phases of the empirical research process – from the research question and data collection to the presentation of results. You will benefit from close networking between the two Potsdam universities and a constantly growing network with stakeholders from science, research, education, and practice. Modern research laboratories and an innovative learning workshop provide ideal conditions for linking research and practice development. The Master's program in Early Childhood Education Research benefits from diverse experiences and perspectives. Students with different backgrounds, whether through studies, daycare practice, volunteer work, or specialized internships, enrich the program and enable interdisciplinary exchange. This leads to innovative ideas and solutions for the challenges of early childhood education.
