About this program

The study program "Freie Kunst" (Fine Arts) at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf focuses on free artistic practice within artistic classes. The curriculum includes a two-semester orientation phase (Grundstudium) followed by an eight-semester main study phase (Hauptstudium) in a professor-led class. Theoretical courses in art-related sciences such as art history, philosophy, sociology, and pedagogy are integrated into the practical studies. Students have access to well-equipped artistic workshops and a library/archive. The program culminates in an artistic final project and an oral examination, leading to an "Akademiebrief" (equivalent to a Diplom). The academy also encourages integrated study abroad opportunities.
