About this program
The Elementare Musikpädagogik (EMP) program in Detmold is characterized by a particularly high practical component to prepare students for the diverse demands of their future profession. For initial teaching practice experience in various groups (toddlers with parents, kindergarten and primary school children, seniors and people with disabilities, children's and youth choirs, various instrumental groups), the Detmold EMP cooperates with numerous institutions such as music schools in the city and region, with Detmolder Lebenshilfe e.V., various kindergartens, primary and special schools, the Detmolder Schloss-Spatzen, and the cathedral music departments in Paderborn and Münster. Additionally, students are actively involved in various projects, such as preparing special concert formats with students with special needs or with members of Lebenshilfe, singing and making music with refugee women, with intellectually disabled youth, or in music therapy settings with children from Bethel. Not least, the Detmolder Musikkindergarten offers students the opportunity to experience and explore the topic of "Music in Kindergarten" in its entire breadth. Graduates of the Detmold EMP program, which has existed since 2006 and offers Bachelor's or Master's degrees, are in high demand in the job market and work nationwide in musical and cultural educational institutions. They also make a societal contribution by realizing the fundamental right to musical education for many people through open access to music and making music.
