About this program

The Elementare Musikpädagogik (EMP) program in Detmold is characterized by a particularly high practical component to prepare students for the diverse demands of their future profession. Students gain initial teaching experience in various groups, including toddlers with parents, kindergarten and primary school children, seniors, people with disabilities, children's and youth choirs, and diverse instrumental groups. The program collaborates with numerous institutions such as music schools, Lebenshilfe Detmold, kindergartens, primary and special schools, Detmolder Schloss-Spatzen, and the cathedral music departments in Paderborn and Münster. Students also participate in projects like preparing special concert formats, singing and making music with refugee women, mentally impaired youth, and in music therapy settings with children from Bethel. The Detmolder Musikkindergarten offers students the opportunity to experience and explore 'Music in Kita' in its full scope. Graduates of the EMP program, established in 2006, are highly sought after in the job market and work in music and cultural educational institutions nationwide, contributing to society by realizing the fundamental right to musical education through open access to music and making music.
