About this program

The Diplom program at HfG Offenbach is being phased out and replaced by new Bachelor's and Master's programs starting in the Winter Semester 2022/23. Current Diplom students are not affected and do not need to switch programs. A voluntary switch from Diplom to Bachelor is possible through the regular admission process for the Winter Semester 2023/24, at the latest in the third semester. Diplom students who have already completed a degree (e.g., BA/BFA) can apply for the Master's program under the same conditions. The program consists of a foundational study period, typically completed after four semesters with a pre-diploma examination (artistic-design work), and a main study period concluding in the tenth semester with the diploma examination. The diploma examination includes a main artistic-design subject and a theoretical main subject, plus a minor subject. The foundational study covers artistic-design fundamentals, representation methods, and theoretical knowledge, with specialization courses available from the second semester. The main study deepens artistic-design and theoretical-scientific foundations, focusing on conceptual-methodical work, content development, and the creation of a personal visual language and strategy. The theory component plays an increasingly significant role in planning and executing complex works. A practical internship of at least twelve to twenty-four weeks is required before the diploma.
