About this program

The teaching degree extension subject concludes with the extension examination (according to § 33 HLbG) and leads to an additional teaching qualification for a teaching degree at public schools. The degree is only valid in conjunction with a successfully completed First State Examination for the teaching profession or an equivalent qualification. If a First State Examination has not yet been successfully completed or an equivalent qualification is available, only one subject with the intended goal of an extension examination can be studied concurrently. The subject of German scientifically examines the performance and effect of the German language and German-language literature in its historical changes, its aesthetic particularity, and its social conditions. The study at TU Darmstadt focuses on the three Germanistic sub-fields of Modern German Literary Studies, German Linguistics, and German Language and Literature of the Middle Ages (Medieval Studies). During the course of study, a specialization will be chosen in either Literary Studies or Linguistics.
