About this program

Students aiming for a "teaching degree for vocational schools" first complete the six-semester Bachelor's degree program in Vocational Education (BB), which combines a vocational subject with a general education subject. This is followed by the four-semester Master's degree program in Teaching Vocational Schools (degree: Master of Education) with the same subject combination. A new application is required for the Master's program. The Master's degree is a prerequisite for admission to the preparatory service (Referendariat). German Studies, as a humanities discipline, researches, documents, and conveys the German language and literature in their historical and contemporary forms. Modern German Studies is seen as a combination of two sub-disciplines: linguistics and modern German literary studies. In addition to these subject-specific components, the program includes the field of German didactics. At the University of Osnabrück, the subject is divided into the areas of literary and linguistic studies and encompasses the entire spectrum of German literature and language. Specializations include epochs of German literature and genre theory, children's and young adult literature, text interpretation, grammatical structures of German, orthography, first and second language acquisition. The field of German didactics deals with the teaching of these subject contents in vocational schools.
