About this program

This program is designed for students interested in the German language and literature, preparing them to teach these subjects to students. The curriculum covers literary studies, linguistic studies, and German didactics. Unique to the University of Jena are collaborative courses between subject didactics and literary/linguistic studies, which address academic questions from a didactic perspective relevant to school practice. Students can further specialize through elective modules, exploring topics from classical German poetry to contemporary literature, regional dialects, language acquisition, and even the role of AI in language learning.
