About this program

Cognitive Science aims to research complex cognitive processes such as attention, thinking, planning, learning, speaking, and acting in biological and artificial systems, to comprehensively understand cognition, and to develop and improve artificial intelligence systems. As an interdisciplinary field, it combines content and methods from STEM areas such as (neuro)informatics, machine learning, mathematics, and neuroscience, neuropsychology, (computer-oriented) linguistics, and animal cognition, as well as humanities areas such as philosophy of mind and ethics of artificial intelligence. The program focuses on research-oriented engagement with innovative technologies such as deep learning methods and large language models in many courses. This broad education, which includes both theory and practical teamwork on projects, optimally prepares students for future-oriented professions that require not only expertise but also innovative thinking, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary communication.
