About this program
The international Master's program Chemistry of Materials is research-oriented and, building on a basic education in a suitable Bachelor's program, imparts the ability for independent scientific work in a modern, interdisciplinary field of science at the interface between chemistry, physics, and materials science. The study program imparts extensive knowledge in the synthesis, chemistry, and properties of novel functional materials. The consideration covers the entire spectrum from molecules to nanoscale materials to engineering materials. A special focus is placed on modern methods of industrial materials synthesis and chemical processing, for example of nanomaterials, thin films, macromolecular materials, glasses and ceramics, and materials for energy technology. In these fields, extensive experimental-analytical skills as well as computer-aided work from the atomistic to the meso- and macroscopic length scale are imparted. The study program is fully taught in English and is aimed at both international and domestic students with a special interest in an international curriculum. Through a research-oriented and highly interdisciplinary study program, which places great emphasis on international mobility and trans-sectoral training of students, it responds to the demand for qualified graduates in the overarching field of materials chemistry as well as in nanotechnology in particular. Global key topics in the areas of renewable energy, optics and photonics, health and aging, transport, and information and data processing are addressed.
