About this program
The bachelor's degree course in fashion design at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier is oriented towards the specific professional profile of the designer. The aim is to provide practice-oriented training for highly qualified designers who, depending on their talents and aptitudes, seek their professional fields of activity in the diverse professional spectrum of fashion design and the clothing industry. Students acquire skills that are highly valued in the professional field of fashion and clothing. These include in particular skills such as independence in organisation and management, the ability to work in a team, research and analysis skills, conceptual and creative thinking, social skills, innovative skills geared towards implementation and the ability to critically reflect on one's own and other creative achievements. The promotion of these competences is achieved in terms of content by teaching media, communication and cultural studies basics, methods and knowledge in complex design projects. In addition, inter- and transdisciplinary courses in the context of new media-supported forms of teaching, learning and cooperation will show students a variety of ways in design processes. In the bachelor's degree course in fashion design, the focus is on the creative-artistic examination of the basic research, the concept and the design up to the realisation, in accordance with the specific job description of the designer. At the same time, students deal with art, social and cultural science topics in depth. A wide range of contacts to external institutions, companies, universities and networks support this offer. In addition to the subject-specific orientation of the bachelor's programme, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity are regarded as indispensable components of the design process and are therefore consistently applied across the disciplines in the Design Department of the University of Applied Sciences Trier. The internationality of the fashion design course is reflected in the above-average proportion of student exchanges with international universities as well as in the practical phases of the students' curriculum. The Fashion Design department maintains numerous intensive contacts with partner universities abroad.
