About this program
Biomedical Engineering is a broad subject area, incorporating a combination of mathematics, physics, engineering, biology and medicine to answer health-science-related questions, for diagnostics, and for therapeutics. The objective of the degree programme is to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to conduct independent work and/or research in the field of biomedical engineering, particularly in areas related to computer science and medical physics. Following completion of the degree programme, graduates will: possess basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and genetics; have acquired basic knowledge of biophysics and engineering mathematics (numerically-oriented), including programming; have learned how to apply computational concepts to the life sciences, in relation to image analysis, scientific visualisation, inverse problems, and simulation systems; possess detailed knowledge of radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and medical imaging, and will have learned methods for mediating the gap between technologists and physicians; have completed a scientific (life-sciences-related) project; have successfully resolved technical issues related to Biomedical Engineering; have acquired expertise in the critical assessment of technical systems in medicine.
