About this program
The program focuses on two teaching subjects including their didactics and educational sciences. It also includes a MINT-oriented interdisciplinary networking area (MINT = Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Technology). A strong practical orientation is integrated from the beginning with a company internship, a basic internship, and a practical semester. The program concludes with the First State Examination. The teaching offer is in German. The biology component covers classical fields like zoology, botany, microbiology, genetics, physiology, and ecology, as well as neighboring disciplines such as biochemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, biomedicine, biotechnology, and bioethics. Students will gain an overview of biology disciplines and learn the fundamentals of the subject, including structure and function of organisms, cell biology, ecology and evolution, and development and human biology. Students who do not choose chemistry as their second subject must complete an additional chemistry/physics module. Fachdidaktik modules teach the didactic foundations of good teaching over several semesters, which are then applied in practical training and deepened in further Fachdidaktik components. The educational sciences encompass pedagogy, psychology, sociology, political science, the basic internship, and parts of the practical semester. The networking area is a joint offering of subjects and educational sciences, available depending on the subject combination. It combines natural sciences, technology, and humanities and social sciences. The practical training consists of a basic internship in the first half and a practical semester in the second half of the study program. The focus of the basic internship is reflecting on one's suitability for the teaching profession, while the practical semester emphasizes reflecting on pedagogical actions based on acquired knowledge. An internship of at least eight weeks in a production, processing, trade, or service company is required and must be proven by the time of registration for the First State Examination.
