About this program

The master programme Biological Oceanography is conducted entirely in English. The programme aims to equip students with the ability to tackle complex tasks and research questions in biological oceanography. Students will develop an understanding of the natural ecosystem of the ocean and gain the necessary foundations to recognize potential changes in marine communities. In addition to interdisciplinary content, students will also be introduced to neighboring oceanographic disciplines to enable them to work on complex research topics. Furthermore, students will acquire methodological competencies in both the analysis and critical interpretation of data. Additional courses on interdisciplinary teamwork and the communication of scientific content will enhance their key competencies. The goal is to make graduates competitive in the international job market. The curriculum includes fundamental introductions to oceanography and fisheries economics, covering fields such as maritime environmental monitoring. Students can specialize in the increasing human use of the sea or potential changes in the ocean's ecosystem, learning methods for investigation, prognosis, prevention, and adaptation.
