About this program

The interdisciplinary Bachelor's program Bio-Materials Engineering combines bio-functional materials used in medicine for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes with materials from renewable resources, bio-composites, or products from biorefineries. These materials can be used to produce implants, tissues, bio-based consumer goods (e.g., Cellular Agriculture, Cultivated Meat), or sustainable technical products like wind turbines, houses, furniture, and paper. The program aims to develop sustainable solutions for products or processes to improve our environment and health. It imparts engineering competencies to systematically process and solve complex problems, applying fundamental knowledge from biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Product design, development, and teamwork in interdisciplinary teams are also important components, as are the fundamentals of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
