About this program
In both degree programs, in-depth subject knowledge is imparted in 4 semesters through practice-oriented tasks and problem-solving according to the state of the art and on a scientific basis. In addition, you can choose from a wide and constantly updated range of elective subjects to deepen your knowledge or to position yourself interdisciplinarily. The study objective is to impart scientifically founded knowledge and skills in a research-oriented manner, so that graduates are able to recognize the technical problems and tasks in their complexity in the sense of a second professional qualification, to solve them independently and on their own responsibility, and to consider and take into account the subject-specific and societal consequences and the effects on the environment. The design-conceptual, technical-constructive, and socio-economic-social science competencies integrated at HafenCity University enable the development of new research priorities and new teaching offers, especially in the field of master's studies. Furthermore, knowledge of construction methods in aircraft, automotive, or shipbuilding can provide inspiration for new techniques in civil engineering. The training prepares for the activity as a consulting engineer in the construction industry as well as for a leading designer and structural engineer and, in conjunction with the associated elective module offerings, also enables a leading position in construction management, construction operations, and construction management. The research-oriented focus of the degree program also opens up professional entry into research and teaching. The close link between the disciplines integrated at HafenCity University leads to a high-quality and innovative offering in research and teaching through the use of interdisciplinary opportunities. The combination of subject-specific teaching offers and joint interdisciplinary projects clearly demonstrates the interaction of the different disciplines. The existing contacts with foreign universities and construction companies enable study stays as well as the completion of final theses abroad. Study stays of civil engineering students are additionally financially supported by the Professor Dr. Egon Peter Foundation.
