About this program
Archives are the memory of society. During the study program, you will learn to assess analog and digital products for their relevance to the future and make them available to interested parties in a user-friendly manner. The high practical relevance during the study program provides an authentic impression of your future versatile field of activity. Whether in a public archive or a private company: the acquired specialist knowledge and the learned methods are in demand on the job market and help graduates of the archival studies program to achieve a wide range of career opportunities. Contrary to often widespread prejudice, archivists do not exclusively deal with dusty documents from times long past. On the contrary: the long-term digital archiving of virtual sources, for example, is an important part of the study program. In the seven-semester archival studies program, you will learn to responsibly assess analog and digital media for their significance for scientific research, to prepare sources for scientific and non-scientific audiences, and to convey them in a target-group-specific manner. The study content is interdisciplinary and covers not only history, administration, and data management but also topics such as law, business administration, and project management, as well as marketing and public relations. A six-week internship and a practical semester allow you early access to the professional world.
