About this program

Animation is understood as an art form that is constantly evolving, demanding both craftsmanship and design skills, as well as a willingness to experiment and take artistic risks. Any visual form that incorporates movement can be explored here, encompassing all forms and materials of fine arts as well as other artistic disciplines like theater or dance. A connection with 3D animation/games is also recognized. Content and form are developed in parallel, ranging from traditional narrative forms and documentaries to pure abstraction, from television plays to performances. Presentation is also integrated into the design process, as production solely for the screen is no longer a given. Student projects are diverse in terms of material and content, telling stories through traditional drawing or stop-motion film, documentaries, 2D computer animation, abstract works, and increasingly, installations. Animation is situated between fine arts, film, and new technologies, a hybrid form incorporating elements of traditional and new visual communication. Students can explore a wide range of possibilities from classical animation techniques to any form of expression, encouraged to combine different media. Beyond basic animation techniques, the program introduces historical examples and current productions, while also observing other media to broaden aesthetic knowledge and creative tools. Courses examine links to film language, as well as influences from dance, theater, and architecture, with collaborations with professional dancers for practical research on movement, rhythm, and staging.
