About this program
The AgriGenomics Master's program at Kiel University offers state-of-the-art methods for the genetic improvement of crops and livestock, as well as for optimizing agricultural production processes. This unique program combines relevant techniques and strategies of genomics research with insights from agricultural sciences. Students will gain in-depth knowledge in cross-sectional technologies such as bioinformatics and molecular biology, enabling them to analyze genomic data and apply it to agricultural research and development. The curriculum includes laboratory practicals and excursions to sites of applied genomics research, both domestically and internationally, to deepen understanding of breeding methods, plant nutrition, and pests. The program emphasizes understanding the interplay between genome, proteins, and environmental factors, and how agricultural production measures influence these interactions. Students will benefit from the facilities at the Center for Molecular Biosciences (ZMB), including a Next Generation Sequencing Platform, and a network of international companies and research institutes in breeding, agrobiotechnology, life sciences, and nutrition. The program is designed to prepare students for subsequent doctoral studies and is internationally oriented.
